You may have noticed it’s been a bit quiet around here, we have been trying to save our dream of opening a restaurant for the last couple of weeks but to no avail. I think we probably picked the worst time ever to open a new restaurant as everything was against us. In the end Alessandro pulled out as a result of a number of factors including the credit crunch, the recession and basically a lack of confidence in the Irish economy. We were still very positive about it and were prepared to go ahead as we know the food industry in Ireland inside out and knew we were filling a big gap in the market. Unfortunately we can’t guarantee him that the economy will improve so he felt the best thing to do for himself was not to go ahead which is fair enough, times are bad at the moment and maybe he has done us a favour, who knows!!. We were pretty far in and had all the design and architect work done as you can see from above, sorry about the image but you get a rough idea of what it was supposed to be like.

We were keeping it very simple with an open kitchen and a featured wine wall with the main focus not being on a snazzy interior but on the most important factors, the food, wine, and service. The kitchen was open so that the customers could interact and be part of the whole cooking experience and we had included a “chef’s table” or counter in our case where you you could watch it all happening. Basically we just wanted a very informal neighbourhood restaurant with very good quality food at affordable prices but it’s just going to have to wait:(

Naturally we’re disappointed as we have put a lot of work into it since May but I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and it will happen in the future. For the moment we are going to concentrate on La Cucina and change it around to include more seating which is always the big complaint that our customers have so that will keep us busy. I have to mention Stanford & Stanford who did our design and architect side as they have been brilliant and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for interior design etc.

p.s. I didn’t like the chairs in the design, they were going to be changed:)
